The United States of America (USA) is a country in North America consisting of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions. The climate in the United States varies greatly due to its large size, ranging from humid subtropical in the south to subpolar in the north. The average weather year-round is mild, with temperatures ranging from highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit in the summer to lows in the mid-30s Fahrenheit in the winter. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the country, though areas along the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific coasts tend to receive more rain than areas further inland.
