Stephenson County is located in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is part of the Rockford Metropolitan Statistical Area and is bordered by Jo Daviess, Ogle, Winnebago and Carroll counties. The county has a total area of 581 square miles and is home to an estimated population of just over 45,000 people. The climate of Stephenson County is classified as humid continental with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Average temperatures range from the mid-20s in the winter to the mid-80s in the summer. Precipitation is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, with the wettest months being May and June. Snowfall can occur during any month, but is most common during December and January.
