Tuktoyaktuk is a small, remote hamlet in the Northwest Territories of Canada, located on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. It is the northernmost community in Canada and the only permanent settlement on the Arctic Ocean coast of the country. The climate in Tuktoyaktuk is very cold and subarctic, with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. Average temperatures range from -20°C (-4°F) in the winter to 10°C (50°F) in the summer. The area experiences very little precipitation, with an average of around 100mm per year. Snowfall is heavy in the winter and light in the summer.
